Grunge

I would have to say, one of my most favorite genres of music has to be grunge.

GRUNGE MUSIC -Has a dirty guitar sound, strong riffs, and heavy drumming -Guitars usually tuned to a lower key -Commonly used guitar distortion and feedback -Draws heavily on Punk -Lyrics are typically angst-filled, angry, frustrated, sad, fearsome, and depressed

I absolutely love everything about it, especially the rebelliousness from mainstream society and not giving a F&*(^ about how you look or anybody else. Most people mistaken grunge for "emo" which gets my blood boiling.

I pretty much grew up with grunge music and fashion in the early 90s, but it hit mainstream as Nirvana went big with their NeverMind album. It faded out and most people don't even recall what grunge is.

I don't think grudge can compare to punk, since punk can never die. Grunge has died, but I still listen to the music and dress it.

  6. Grunge was the next step of Punk, really. Both are minimalistic movements against musical and stylistic excess.

Then Alt-Rock really started up thanks to Grunge in the mid 90's, and the rest is history.

  18. I'm looking forward to the grunge post tomorrow. Honestly the first thing that comes to my mind when I hear the word grunge is Nirvana. I hear some people say Alice in Chains is grunge, others say it isn't. I've never put myself into the category of being a certain type of music fan. I just like what I like. But I am interested in learning about newer grunge bands.

  21. Grunge can't be completely dead if there's at least one person out there keeping it alive.

  22. Thing I like about the Grunge music is that it feels like the drum's more involved.

  28. It always amuses me when people say "this or that" is dead, when there are bands out there that play that style of music.

  29. Can't say I'm a big Grunge fan, but growing up it had an impact on me and almost everyone our age in some way or another. I still think people tend to overrate a genre because it had 3 good bands.

  30. I <3 grunge. AIC is my fav.

If you guys want to listen to some early grunge, find a cd of Mother Love Bone. They never took off due to Nirvana, but the sound and passion is just as good.

  31. I was never that big on Grunge. I don't outright dislike as a genre, but it's simply never appealed to me that much.

  37. I miss grunge, but I wouldn't say that it's dead. There are still some bands trying to pull it off, but they have abandoned the flannel fashion.
