Grunge
I would have to say, one of my most favorite genres of music has to be grunge.
GRUNGE MUSIC -Has a dirty guitar sound, strong riffs, and heavy drumming -Guitars usually tuned to a lower key -Commonly used guitar distortion and feedback -Draws heavily on Punk -Lyrics are typically angst-filled, angry, frustrated, sad, fearsome, and depressed
I absolutely love everything about it, especially the rebelliousness from mainstream society and not giving a F&*(^ about how you look or anybody else. Most people mistaken grunge for "emo" which gets my blood boiling.
I pretty much grew up with grunge music and fashion in the early 90s, but it hit mainstream as Nirvana went big with their NeverMind album. It faded out and most people don't even recall what grunge is.
I don't think grudge can compare to punk, since punk can never die. Grunge has died, but I still listen to the music and dress it.

ReplyDeleteWhoa, blast from the past right here. Grunge sort of did seem like a fad...
ReplyDeleteDo you consider Alice In Chains grunge?
man... not in the mood right now for loud music.
ReplyDeleteWhere's my flannel?
ReplyDeleteGrunge was the next step of Punk, really. Both are minimalistic movements against musical and stylistic excess.
ReplyDeleteThen Alt-Rock really started up thanks to Grunge in the mid 90's, and the rest is history.
Nice story man, Nirvana were great.
ReplyDeleteGotta love grunge!
ReplyDeletenice song
Not a big fan of Nirvana
ReplyDeleteNirvana is ok with me
ReplyDeleteAlso grew up in the late '80s early '90s and remember when grunge was pretty popular and on the rise.

ReplyDeleteI've always been a big fan of Nirvana
ReplyDeletethanks for reminding me of this song ;)
It's so weird how fast that music scene was, almost as quick as ska and swing.
ReplyDeletenirvana is the best
ReplyDeletevery cool song! I like the info, didn't realize the guitars were tuned different!

ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to the grunge post tomorrow. Honestly the first thing that comes to my mind when I hear the word grunge is Nirvana. I hear some people say Alice in Chains is grunge, others say it isn't. I've never put myself into the category of being a certain type of music fan. I just like what I like. But I am interested in learning about newer grunge bands.
ReplyDeleteCool post, man!

Not really my style
ReplyDeleteDid you hear about Justin Beiber comparing himself to Kurt Cobain? I raged.
ReplyDeleteunfortunately i cant see it :(
ReplyDeleteEh its okay.

ReplyDeleteGrunge can't be completely dead if there's at least one person out there keeping it alive.
ReplyDeleteI'm a big fan of Nirvana
ReplyDeleteamazing style
ReplyDeleteI like this a lot!
ReplyDeletethat's not really my style either
ReplyDeleteNirvana FTW, great post

ReplyDeleteThing I like about the Grunge music is that it feels like the drum's more involved.
ReplyDeleteAwesome!!! Nirvana is just cool BTW I like your blog design!
ReplyDeletenirvana is epic.
ReplyDeleteI love how kurts guitar always sounds diffrent at every show
ReplyDeletei love how Kurt's guitar always sounds different at every show
ReplyDeletegrunge always makes my clothes smell
ReplyDeleteYeah I'm kinda surprised it died out so fast.
ReplyDeleteIt always amuses me when people say "this or that" is dead, when there are bands out there that play that style of music.
ReplyDeleteGrunge...eh.
good read, most definitely
ReplyDeleteCan't say I'm a big Grunge fan, but growing up it had an impact on me and almost everyone our age in some way or another. I still think people tend to overrate a genre because it had 3 good bands.
ReplyDeleteAwesome!
ReplyDeleteI <3 grunge. AIC is my fav.
ReplyDeleteIf you guys want to listen to some early grunge, find a cd of Mother Love Bone. They never took off due to Nirvana, but the sound and passion is just as good.
Nirvana is cool :)
ReplyDeleteI was never that big on Grunge. I don't outright dislike as a genre, but it's simply never appealed to me that much.
ReplyDeleteaw ye, grunge! :D
ReplyDeleteSounds pretty awesome!
ReplyDeleteNirvana, eh
ReplyDeleteI used to really like this kind of music but have since grown away from it and don't like it much anymore.
ReplyDeletetbh, never liked nirvana/grunge much :\
ReplyDeleteI actually have not heard much about grunge.
ReplyDeleteI use to be really into grunge. good stuff
ReplyDeleteGood stuff!
ReplyDeleteWell, now I see you and me have one thing in common. I like Nirvana so much, I have thousands of music, and I sometimes I start erasing music I don't like, but from Nirvana I just have erased like two or three tracks. Nirvana deserves an special genre. =) Good track! and thank you for your supp! bro, we're in touch
ReplyDeleteI saw Nirvana live one year hear at the State Fair when they were starting out.....damn I feel old.
ReplyDeleteI miss grunge, but I wouldn't say that it's dead. There are still some bands trying to pull it off, but they have abandoned the flannel fashion.
ReplyDeleteI liked Nirvana and tried listening to other bands but they did nothing for me. I think I kinda liked Helmut though.
ReplyDeleteI sort of grew out of the genre.
ReplyDeletei still enjoy a tune here and there.
